ALL CATTLE EXHIBITED AT NEW YORK COUNTY FAIRS AND STATE FAIR MUST TEST NEGATIVE FOR BOVINE VIRAL DIARRHEA (BVD-PI). NO NEGATIVE TEST, NO ENTRY. Schedule the testing well inadvance of the fair.

ANIMALS CANNOT BE UNLOADED UNTIL THE DEPARTMENT VETERINARIANS OR ANIMAL HEALTH INSPECTORS SIGN THE HEALTH PAPERS FOR COMPLIANCE WITH THE REGULATIONS.

Entry Fee:        $3.00 for each single and group entry

Entries Close:   Paper and on-line due July 1st. No Late entries will be accepted. Online entries are

encouraged. No call-in entries.

Arrival Time:     To be in place Wednesday morning by 11:00 A M, (Arrival times are Tuesday 8:00am

11am, and Wednesday 8:00am -11:00am. This includes Tack.)

No vehicles are allowed to enter or leave through gates after 11:00am daily without Director’s approval.                              

Judging:          Thursday, 9:00 AM, Milking yearlings will start, heifers judged after the milk cows

Release Time:  TBA, Thursday (NOT 4-H EXHIBITS)

  1. Judging begins Thursday, 9:00 a.m. and is open to New York State Residents.
  • All open dairy exhibitors will receive one exhibitor’s ticket, which admits one person for the two days at the Dairy Show.  Only one free pass per exhibitor even when showing more than one species.
  • Exhibitors exhibiting 6 or more animals will receive one exhibitor pass (see #2) and one helper pass (for each additional 6 animals brought to the fair), for just the time frame for that exhibit. Helper pass is $7. Each person entering the gates must have a ticket. All tickets can be purchased in advance with the entry blank. Helper passes are available. Please seeentry blank to order.
  • The entry fee is $3.00 for each single and group entry. All animals shown in the groups must be entered in the individual classes. All production classes must be pre-entered. All entry fees must be paid in full at time of entry deadline. No late entries.
  • The Judge will give reasons for placing.
  • The Society will take every precaution possible for the safekeeping of all exhibits but assumes no responsibility in case of loss or damage to person or stock or other exhibits and, upon these conditions only, are entries received.
  • Though not required, leadsmen should consider wearing white clothing in the ring.
  • Minimum age for calf at show time is 3 months. Ownership of calf must be at least 30 days.
  • The Fair Dairy Committee will be the final authority regarding Dairy show matters for the open class.
  • Animals with ringworm, lice or pink eye will be rejected.
  1. If cattle with warts are offered for exhibition they are to be rejected. This will apply even if the warts are surgically removed after arrival of the animal at the Fair. Presumably the virus would remain in or on such an animal for a period after excision of the wart itself. If animals arrive on the Fair premises without warts, they can be accepted even though there is some evidence to suggest that the warts were recently removed.

  1. The registration certificate will be considered proof of identity, parentage, birth date, ownership and breeder. CERTIFICATES MUST BE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST TO FAIR PERSONNEL AT ALL TIMES DURING THE FAIR. ONLY CATTLE REGISTERED WITH RESPECTIVE BREED ASSOCIATIONS MAY BE SHOWN.
  1. Substitutions can be made 24 hours prior to the start of the dairy show. Same Breed, Same Class, NO exceptions. All others are LATE ENTRIES and must meet the late entry rules. Substitute animals must have valid health papers. Subject to space availability.
  1. Livestock, cattle, horse trucks and trailers are to park in the far side of the infield of the racetrack. NO TRUCKS OR TRAILERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARK BY THE BARNS.
  1. Exhibitors are responsible for clean-up at wash rack after use, also at any time when moving cattle to or from wash rack, milking parlor and show ring. They must also maintain a neat stall area.
  1. The Dairy Director will have full authority to allot space for all cattle. If you have special needs or request for space, please notify the fair office in writing with your entries.
  2. Health Papers (CVI) must accompany all animals and be available upon request to fair personnel at all times during the fair.
  3. All Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning out their stalls, bedding packs and area prior to leaving the Fairground at the completion of the show. Please do not put any garbage in the manure pit – this includes paper towels and trash. Hay and animal waste only.  Garbage containers are provided for garbage.
  4. Exhibitors are required to wear shirts and shoes while on the Fairgrounds.
  • A milking parlor is available. The parlor has three (3) ties stalls with one (1) stall cock. The hours of operation will be subject to the discretion of the milking parlor operator. Abusive behavior will not be tolerated, and that person(s) will be removed from the Fairgrounds and premium money will be forfeited.
  • The parlor is operated by strict health requirements for fluid milk. NO cow will be milked in the milking parlor that:
  1. Is producing colostrum milk
  • Is producing mastitis milk
  • Is producing flaky milk
  • Is being treated with an antibiotic
  • If your cow’s milk cannot go in the tank, please plan ahead, and bring a bucket milker to

use. Unmarketable milk is disposed of in the manure pit.

These guidelines are the only means of assuring a possible market for the milk. If any of the is detected in a tank, the entire tank of milk must be disposed of.

  1. Milk sale proceeds, if any, will be contributed to an exhibitor’s picnic on Wednesday prior to the open dairy show.
  • ALL medical sharps or medical waste products MUST be disposed of properly. Medical wastereceptacles are available near the end of the animal barns. DO NOT, under any circumstances, throw sharps in the trash cans, manure pit, feed bags or bedding. ANY exhibitor failing to follow this procedure will automatically FORFEIT all prize money and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW at the Allegany County Fair for THREE CONSECUTIVE YEARS. There will be ZERO tolerance for such offense.

Granny cow – 1 class for ALL BREEDS. Criteria will include either 100,000 pounds of milk or 3500 pounds fat. Cows cannot show in any other individual class but are eligible for groups. Top cow in each breed is eligible for Senior Champion classes.

Registration papers must be presented to show chairman or assistant at the time of showing in the following classes: Best Open class female Bred by Exhibitor

Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor awards will be made at the end of the show. Theseawards are for All Breeds. Scoring: Animals under 2: 1st – 10 pts.; 2nd – 8 pts.; 3rd – 6 pts.; 4th – 4 pts.; 5th – 2 pts. Animals over 2: 1st – 20 pts.; 2nd – 18 pts.; 3rd – l6 pts.; 4th – 14 pts.; 5th – 12 pts.

Official records must be brought to the ring at beginning of Dairy Show for production classes. Animals in each individual class must show in the top 5 places of each class (or in top 15 entries) to be eligible for these awards.

>Judging of Open Class Dairy Cattle will follow the ranking award system. A total as specified above will be awarded in this department prorated according to the total number of entries. The approximate premiums in each class are indicated following the class name. These cash awards will not be exceeded but may be diminished. Premium payment limited to 2 per exhibitor per class.

>The exhibitor of an animal or group must own all exhibited animals unless otherwise stated above. Exhibitor and/or his immediate family may own group classes where herd is housed as one unit. All animals entered in the group classes must have been entered and shown in the regular manner in the individual classes.

SUPREME CHAMPION class will be done at the end of the show.

Cows will be REQUIRED to be milked after the Senior Champion Classes.

At the end of the heifer judging: Grand Champions will be placed first followed by Supreme Champion
