GENERAL RULES FOR DEPARTMENT
- The Danish system of judging will be used. The name of the exhibitor will NOT be displayed before the completion of judging but will be included in display of entries. The decision of the judges is final.
- It is understood that all exhibits are entered at the owner’s risk.
- No premiums will be given on unfinished or unworthy items.
- All work is to be done by the exhibitor; except as noted in Quilt class #10-482.
- Articles, which have been entered in previous years, may NOT be entered again.
- The number of entries is limited to 4 per class unless otherwise stated. An example of a class is 10-431 Afghan. Each exhibitor may enter from one to three (1 – 3) crocheted Afghans in this class. In the photo category, only two (2) photos of the same subject will be accepted in the same category. The only exception will be category 10-206, photo story.
- No exhibit shall be entered in more than one class at the same time.
- Only residents of Allegany County or NYS adjoining Townships. For Department 10 – Domestic Arts – Exhibitors must be residents of Allegany County or any of the NYS adjoining townships. See list at end of Department 10 section for eligible townships.
- Non-professional Exhibitors ONLY. An exhibitor is considered a Professional if he/she DOES use the sale of these (or similar) items as a major portion of his/her income.
- No exhibit may be offered for sale during the Fair.
- A “Best of Show” ribbon may be awarded to the outstanding entry in each section at the discretion of the judges.
- Examples of judging sheets will be available in the Domestic Arts Building, SATURDAY, before Fair.
- All items must be finished appropriately for its intended use. All items intended for hanging must be ready to be hung with frame and sturdy hanger firmly attached to the back of the exhibit. Finishing techniques will be part of the judging criteria.
- All entry forms MUST be received at the Fair Office by MONDAY, before Fair, before 5 PM. Entries must be delivered in person or mailed to: Allegany County Fair, PO Box 96, Angelica, NY 14709
- Entry forms are located on the website or can be picked up in the Fair Office.
- All exhibits including foods MUST be received at the Domestic Arts Building, SATURDAY, before Fair, between 10:00 AM and Noon. Please Park in the parking lot as others are setting up on the grounds.
- Entry envelopes will be at the Domestic Arts Building on the Saturday before fair.
- Judging will take place on SATURDAY, before Fair.
- Juniors, 18 years and younger, must specify age on their entry card.
- Entries will be accepted from only those youth under the age of 18 who are not members of 4-H. All such youth entries must have been completed within the previous year. In no case will a prior 4-H entry be accepted as an open class entry. Residence in Allegany County is required of youth entries.
- All exhibits must remain in place until SUNDAY, after Fair ends. Exhibits may be picked up at the Domestic Arts Building from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Parking on the Fairgrounds is permitted on Sunday while picking up exhibits.
- Information re: Baked goods: After the judging, baked goods, except those used for judging and display, (cookies, biscuits, candy, cakes, and pies) will be sold. All revenues collected will help defray the expenses of the Domestic Department.

- Entries in painting and drawing classes may be of any subject such as landscapes, still life, seascapes, animals, portrait, etc.
- Sculpture must be hand sculpted fine art pieces. No commercial molds accepted in section.
- Indicate which side up for display purposes for all pictures, drawings, and photos. (See Quilting category for additional information.)
- No computer art will be accepted.
PAINTINGS
- Where the edges of the painting or drawing are part of the picture, the rule for a frame is waived but a method of hanging for display must be attached to the entry.

Any out-of-county recipient of a Blue Ribbon or Best of Show award will not be eligible to enter that item(s) at the NYS Fair as a representative of Allegany County.
